At The Delhi Comic Con

So I went to the Delhi comic con practically on impulse, made my brother tag along, actually he's become too lazy to go to anywhere especially in the chilly winter season but he did finally give in to my repeated persuasions and also because Karan Singh Magic was gonna perform (since he's a fan) hence we made it to the best weekend of the year.

The convention has been held in Delhi since 2011 which is why I wanted to experience the whole thing at least for once in my life. While there were more Marvel or DC exhibits on one hand, there also were far more anime cosplayers on the other; yay! In fact, wherever we looked there was someone dressed up as a character from Naruto, Bleach or Dragon Ball.

I have always been an anime fan even from the time when I did not even know what it was. My brother is too; we started by watching Pokemon and Beyblade; journeyed towards Shin chan and Doraemon. At this point, when we just had begun our teenage years, we weren't aware these cartoons were Japanese exports.

Then came Animax in our lives and things changed rapidly. The first anime which we both finished was Toward The Terra (a hidden gem in the ocean) and then the best of all Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood came on screen and shook us through and through! Since then we have never looked back; so this comic con we were expecting to see many other anime lovers from Delhi and we did...

Apart from the expected nerdy stuff, there also was a special stage performance by the famous Indian mentalist Karan Singh Magic who is infamous for his password reveal acts. You may have seen him in his viral YouTube videos with Virat Kohli or Hrithik Roshan. To be honest I was a little skeptical whether he'd be able to pull off a trick on stage but he did so exceedingly well. His trickery wowed the spectators yet again only this time though it was us who unlocked his phone or so we were made to believe.

Then he made some random person from the audience come up on stage and flip through a thick textbook and another someone in the audience was required to say "stop." There it stopped at page number 197 and the person on the stage (whose name I cannot seem to remember) was made to choose any common noun on the page. After some inquiry, Karan wrote the very word on the white board much to the surprise of every individual on or off the stage.

And shortly after this mind-blowing presentation, the Rahul Dua of Comicstaan fame brought us to tears with his ever so funny stand-up comedy which included the perfect blend of observations, anecdotes and improvisations. The dude even jumped all over the wooden stage much to the volunteers' horror. The cosplay contest was up next and so his wild on-stage energy must have given them a mild heart attack I think.

Best weekend of the year? Yes, most certainly. But despite it all, I must also mention that the food here was super super pricey. I mean the most basic plate of chole kulche which you may purchase for as little as 50 Rupees on the street was being sold for 260 at the food court, "same cleanliness same quality same everything no difference." And this even after we paid 1300 for the entry tickets. I remembered then that famous catchphrase from a politician, "agar ham karein to karein kya" although for a completely different reason.
